Getting Started
- Go outside to an area with a clear view of the sky. No trees or buildings obstructing your line of sight.
- Fully extend the antenna upwards.
- To turn on your phone, press and hold down the power button on top until the phone beeps once and turns on.
- The phone will search for a signal. It may take a few minutes. Once the screen says “Registered” you’re ready to make & receive calls.
*** IMPORTANT : To confirm that the phone works properly, you must make a free test call to 00 1 480 752 5105 ***
Calling From the Satellite Phone
- To call a landline/cell phone, dial : 00 > Country Code > Area Code > Phone Number
For example : 00 1 941 955 1020 (Do not include dashes or spaces)
- To call satellite phone to satellite phone, dial : 00 > Satellite Phone Number
For example : 00 8816 1234 5678 (Do not include dashes or spaces)
*** You will first hear a series of beeps as the phone contacts the satellite before the call is connected.
*** The “00” prefix is the same as a “+”. If your phone is set to have the “+” pop up in front of the number automatically, omit the “00”.
Calling To the Satellite Phone
- To call the sat phone directly from a landline/cell phone, dial : 011 > Satellite Phone Number
For example : 011 8816 1234 5678 (non US/Canada-based phones should use the international dialing prefix 00 instead of 011)
***Calling a sat phone directly is free for the sat phone user but VERY expensive for the caller, who may be billed up to $12/min.
- To call the sat phone using the 2-Stage service, dial : 1 (480) 768-2500, wait for the voice prompt, enter the 12-digit satellite phone number. The system will connect the call for you.
***Using the 2-stage service, the caller will only be charged for a standard US call and the minutes will be debited from the sat phone’s plan.
Checking Voicemail
- Select “Menu” > “Voicemail” > “Call Voicemail” through the phone’s on-screen menu.
- When prompted, enter your 12 digit satellite phone number.
- When you hear the greeting, “You have reached mailbox...”, interrupt this by pressing the star key (*).
- Then enter your voicemail password, which is the last 7 digits of your satellite phone number.
Sending a Text Message From the Satellite Phone
Sending a Text to a Cell Phone
- Select “Menu” > “Messages” > “Create Message”. Type your message (maximum 160 characters).
- To send the text, select “Options” > “Send” > “Add”. You can select a stored phonebook number or enter a new number. Make sure to use the format 00 > Country Code > Area Code > Phone Number.
For example: 00 1 941 955 1020 (No dashes or spaces)
- The screen will display “Message Sent” if the message was sent successfully.
Sending a Text to an Email Address
- Compose your text starting with the email address, followed by a space, then the rest of the message.
For example: “email@domain.com having a great time!” (maximum 160 characters including the email address) 2. When you select “Send” and it prompts you for a destination number, enter 00*2 then press “OK”.
- The screen will display “Message Sent” if the message was sent successfully.

Sending a Text from an Email Address
Send an email to the satellite phone number @msg.iridium.com.
For example: 881612345678@msg.iridium.com (maximum 160 characters, including the email address which will use 28 characters)
Using the Online Messaging Portal
Go to https://messaging.iridium.com/. Enter the satellite phone number in the “To” field. Enter a Reply Email so the replies come to your email inbox. Enter your text in the message field and click “Send Message” (maximum 160 characters).

I have a monthly service contract however I've not used my Iridium 9555 to make a call since purchase. How can I retrieve my phones number?
